Kabin Crew in the Gaeltacht

5 Apr 2026

The trip combined rap workshops, community engagement, and language-rich experiences designed to deepen the students’ connection with Irish through lived experience in a Gaeltacht setting.

From the 30th of March to the 3rd of April 2026, the Kabin Studio team travelled to the Dún Chaomáin in the Gaeltacht, staying as a group of 15 participants for an unforgettable creative residency focused on music, Gaeilge, and cultural immersion.

Tuesday began with an early departure from Cork, arriving in Dún Chaomáin for a meet-and-greet with local young people in the community hall. After a shared lunch, the group took part in rap workshops until 3pm, before heading to the nearby beach behind Dún Chaomáin for games and relaxation. The day finished with chill time and a group movie and some serious Karaoke.

Wednesday started at 10:30am with a visit to the Blasket Islands Centre, where the group explored the rich language and cultural heritage of the area. Inspired by the visit, they returned to Dún Chaomáin for more workshops and rehearsals after lunch. In the afternoon, the group held a community showcase, sharing their newly created Gael-Raps with locals as well as some of the Kabin’s favourites. The day ended with dinner at Dún Chaomáin, followed by beach activities and games.

Thursday featured a scenic tour along the Slea Head Drive in the morning, followed by a visit to Dingle Oceanworld.

Across the residency, two full songs were written, alongside a deeply immersive experience in the Gaeltacht. The trip offered a powerful sense of language saturation, creativity, and a renewed appreciation for Gaeilge through music, place, and community connection.
