Building Capacity
Within the UNIC alliance, the 'Capacity Building Centre' refers to bringing professional staff together to deepen collaboration across the alliance. This effort is represented by an ever-growing suite of professional staff groups who work together on knowledge exchange, best practice and problem-solving related to the UNIC universities.
A key concept of the Capacity Building Centre is Superdiversity. This means a high degree of diversity in a population. In UNIC, and in our post-industrial cities, the term captures the growing complexity of diversity, including complex mixtures (and intersectionalities) of ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, culture, religion, social status, economic status, legal status, lifestyle and more. It reflects how our cities are home to a rich mix of people of different backgrounds and identities.
Another cornerstone of the Capacity Building Centre is the development of the UNIC Hybrid Campus. This is a work in progress: a central online infrastructure that will connect our universities for the exchange of information and facilitation of educational offerings.
