About Us
Whether you are a group of thrill-seeking dudes who have never stepped on a board or a semi-pro surfer looking for new friends to take on the seas with, look no further than one of UCC’s most popular sporting groups, Surf Club.
The club is open to beginner and experienced surfers alike, and surf outings target a wide range of skill levels. Members benefit from our annual organised trips to famous beaches such as Lahinch, Co. Clare and Castlegregory, Co. Kerry where lessons for beginners cover surfing fundamentals and technique.
For experienced surfers, there is a great opportunity to charge some of the Atlantic Ocean’s most renowned breaks along the Wild Atlantic Way. Early in the New Year, UCC Surf Club embark on an International Trip which have taken us to places as far as Taghazout in Morocco and Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands! This usually takes place for a week in early January before the second semester begins and, once again, is to open to everyone, no matter what level you are at. These types of trips allow members to experience new cultures, make new friends and surf in some of the most amazing places on Earth.
The club committee consists of ten people across all standards, and every year a first-year representative is chosen to join the committee at our AGM (Annual General Meeting). This is a great opportunity for first years to put forward any ideas they may have and is a brilliant way to get more involved in extracurricular activities that contribute to the college experience. So, what are you waiting for? Take the plunge, get barrelled and join us in the ocean to experience the Olympics' newest sport.
