Celpe-Bras Exams
Registration for the 2025/1 Celpe-Bras exam is now closed
The next Celpe-Bras exam at UCC will be held between 11th and 14th March 2025.
In a partnership with the Leitorado Guimarães Rosa programme, the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies at University College Cork has become the first and only Celpe-Bras Examining Centre in Ireland.
Celpe-Bras (Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese) is the only official qualification recognised by the Brazilian government. This qualification does not expire.
The exam is taken by learners of Portuguese who wish to gauge their progress or provide proof of their level of proficiency; students planning to study at a higher-education institution in Brazil; as well as professionals who wish to have an academic certificate from their own country validated in Brazil, or who need to register with professional bodies such as the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine. Celpe-Bras is also used as proof of knowledge of the Portuguese language for those who wish to become Brazilian citizens through naturalisation.
Dates
Celpe-Bras is offered twice a year. UCC may or may not apply both offers. Contact our coordinator for more information.
The 2025/1 application will take place in UCC between 11th and 14th March 2025.
Levels and format
There is only one exam, but four levels of certification: intermediate, high intermediate, advanced and high advanced. The exam consists of listening, reading, oral and written exercises.
You must be 16 years old to take Celpe-Bras. Exams take place in person on UCC campus, there is no online offering.

Fees
The registration fee for the general public is €100. UCC students and staff have a discount. After the registration is completed at celpebras.inep.gov.br, participants must pay the fee in the UCC Shop. Failure to pay the fee will result in the cancellation of the registration. Only paying the fee but not completing the registration appropriately will also result in cancellations. All fees are non-refundable.
Results
The results will be available online, through the website celpebras.inep.gov.br/celpebras
