Records Management

Records Management (RM) seeks to apply a consistent, transparent, and accountable framework to the management of the University’s records, in all formats, to 

  • support business efficiency,
  • achieve compliance with legal and regulatory requirements,
  • ensure records of ongoing value are identified and preserved as part of the University’s recorded archival heritage.

UCC’s RM framework has been completely updated as part of the Digital Records Management (DRM) Project 

 

RM in UCC is guided by our RM Policy, which sets out the principles, definitions, and key responsibilities and tasks involved.

The Records Life Cycle, including structures for capturing and arranging records, how long to retain them, and what happens to them at that cycle, are set out in Records Retention Schedules. 

Help on getting started and performing RM tasks is provided in the Procedures, Guidance, and Support section of this page. This section will, for example, help you to

  • Set up a filing structure based on your Records Retention Schedule
  • Carry out controlled and documented destruction and deletion of hard copy and digital records
  • Identify and transfer to the University Archives those records of ongoing value as historical archives

The University Archives is developing RM training to support the roll-out of the RM framework throughout the University, as part of UCC’s DRM Project.
