Is Linne Í: brand new rap and music video

7 Mar 2025

A brand new rap and an exciting music video from students of Strawberry Hill National School, Mary's on the Hill National School and Gaelcholáiste Mhic Shuibhne.

We understand that there are several challenges when it comes to learning Irish for teenagers, such as a lack of practice, the perception that Irish is too limited as a school subject, and the challenges associated with complex grammar.

To make Irish more engaging and relevant for teenagers today, Barr na Gcnoc, GMCBeats and Léiriú Súgradh Teo came together to create a music video in the hip-hop genre, with a strong impact on learning.

With the help of students from Strawberry Hill National School, Mary's on the Hill National School, and Gaelcholáiste Mhic Shuibhne, the students wrote the lyrics themselves in a music workshop with GMCBeats and Barr na gCnoc. The students had a lot of fun making “Is Linne Í”, and we believe that this journey will create a stronger connection between the teenagers and the language. The song and associated learning resources have been published by TG4 Foghlaim for Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Many thanks to the teachers and principals of the schools that participated, Barr na gCnoc language tutors, Laruen Grace and Aoife Imray, Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín, and The Kabin Studio. This project is produced and directed by Léiriú Súgradh Teo.
