Gaelcholáiste Mhic Shuibhne students awarded Barr na gCnoc Scholarships

15 Sep 2025

On the 15th of September 2025, Barr na gCnoc awarded eleven scholarships to all first-year entrants to Gaelcholáiste Mhic Shuibhne, Knocknaheeny, Cork.

The scholarship ceremony is an annual event and Barr na gCnoc is proud to formally recognise these students' as they begin their second level education through the medium of Irish. By choosing to undertake their education through the Irish language, they and the community in Hollyhill-Knocknaheeny make a powerful statement about who they are and who they want to be. This most recent event follows the success of the first cohort of GMS to sit their Leaving Cert through Irish earlier this year. All of the Leaving Cert cohort are now advancing to third level education.

Yesterday, scholarship recipients were welcomed to the Aula Maxima in UCC to receive their award at a special ceremony. They were joined by their families and teachers and following the ceremony, enjoyed an Irish language tour of the UCC campus. Scholarship certificates were awarded by Deputy President and Registrar, Professor Stephen Byrne.

We wish to extend our thanks to all the students, parents, teachers, and musicians for joining us on this very important occasion.
