College Awareness Week at Gaelcholáiste Mhic Shuibhne

18 Nov 2025

As part of University Awareness Week, and in collaboration with Barr na gCnoc, students and graduates of University College Cork delivered a presentation on career opportunities within the Irish-language sector.

Guest speakers included Lucás Ó Raghallaigh, UCC Students’ Union Irish Language and Culture Representative; Chloe Ahern, Irish teacher and TikTok’s “An Múinteoir Gaeilge”; Laoise Nic Íomhair, Irish teacher and Irish Language Development Officer with Barr na gCnoc; and Lauren de Grás, Research Assistant with Barr na gCnoc.

They spoke with secondary school students about their Irish-language–based careers and the wide range of opportunities that have emerged from their studies and professional involvement in the sector. Students were also given the opportunity to engage with the panel, asking questions about each speaker’s role, experience, and career pathway.

The panel highlighted the advantages of pursuing vocations in the Irish-language field and outlined the areas of study and focus that helped them develop their expertise.

We extend our thanks to Ms. Corbett for her assistance in organising this event, to the Transition Year students of Gaelcholáiste Mhic Suibhne for their participation, and to our guest speakers for sharing their time and insight.
