Civilian Richard Moore
Civilian Richard Moore (aged 15) of 13 Step Lane, Cork city (near Shandon Street, Cork)

Note: Moore was struck by one of the shots fired by a military patrol during curfew hours in the Shandon Street area on 23 January 1921. The bullet hit the young boy over the heart; he died soon after admission to the North Infirmary. He and a half-dozen others had been listening to music at about 8 p.m. When challenged by the patrol, Moore allegedly took no notice.
Information available in the 1911 census suggests that the real name of the victim was Richard Moore of 13 Step Lane—the same address as given at the military inquest in 1921. Certain newspapers gave the victim’s forename as Robert and his surname as Forey. But in 1911 Richard Moore (then aged 5) lived with his mother Hannah Anne Moore and his four sisters (aged 1 to 14) at house 13 in Step Lane in Cork city.
