Note: William J. Buckley died while fighting with the anti-Treaty IRA at Riverstown on 26 September 1922. He was a member of the Fifth Battalion of the Cork No. 1 Brigade. See Cork One Brigade (1963), Roll of Honour. He was interred in Rathcooney Graveyard in Glanmire. See Last Post (1976 ed.), 98; O’Farrell, Who’s Who, 213.

William J. Buckely was in 1911 one of the four children of William Buckley Sr and his wife Julia, who co-resided in that year with their two sons and two daughters at house 1 on the Lower Glanmire Road in Cork city. The father was a mechanical engineer working on steamboats. His second son William Jr was then aged 5.
