Note: While attached to the Southern District Headquarters Staff at Victoria Military Barracks in Cork city, Featherstonehaugh was killed on 20 March 1919 in a motor accident at the Leemount level crossing on the Muskerry railway line between Blarney and Cork. His car collided with the Cork and Muskerry train. His body was taken with full military honors to the railway station in Cork city en route to the family burial ground at Bracklyn House, the Featherstonehaugh family seat in County Westmeath. He had been married to Janet Gordon Dove only since November 1918.
