Note: In the course of military operations in the district of Banteer, where he and other British soldiers were then stationed, Marquis, a drummer attached to the First Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment, was mortally wounded by a bullet to the head fired accidentally by one of his comrades. He was taken to Kanturk and then to Buttevant Military Hospital, where he died a few hours later.
