Civilian Ella C. Wood
Civilian Ella C. Wood of The Soldiers’ Home, Buttevant (Buttevant)

Note: Arsonists burned down to the ground the Soldiers’ Home, located about 500 yards from the great Ballyvonare Military Barracks at Buttevant, at about 6 a.m. on 14 February 1920. The home was supervised by Miss Emily Beatrice Wood (aged about 47), the proprietress of the establishment, her sister, and by two female assistants. Ella Wood, sister of the proprietress, perished in the fire before the military could provide assistance.
