Dr Vivek Verma appointed UCC Futures Pharmaceuticals Lecturer in Process and Chemical Engineering

Dr Vivek Verma appointed UCC Futures Pharmaceuticals Lecturer in Process and Chemical Engineering within the School of Engineering and Architecture (May 2024).
Process and Chemical Engineering warmly welcomes new academic Dr Vivek Verma, who has been appointed UCC Futures Pharmaceuticals Lecturer within the School of Engineering and Architecture since May 2024. A leading young researcher in the field of (bio)pharmaceutical nucleation and crystallisation, Dr Verma was awarded the prestigious Marie Sklodowska Curie Individual Fellowship in 2021, funded by the European Union, to collaborate with Professor Jerry Heng in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London.
Dr Verma completed his PhD at the University of Limerick under the mentorship of Professor Kieran Hodnett, Dr Sarah Hudson, and Dr Peter Davern within the Synthesis and Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre (SSPC), where his research focused on the role of hydrogen bonding in Heterogenous nucleation of Pharmaceuticals. Following his PhD, he worked with Dr Luis Padrela and Professor Kevin Ryan on a commercialisation grant, developing continuous manufacturing and isolation technology for pharmaceutical nanoparticles.
Currently, Dr Verma is funded by the Science Foundation Ireland through the SFI-IRC Pathways Fellowship, focussing on the templated crystallisation of oligonucleotide drugs.
