IChemE President David Bogle visits UCC

IChemE President David Bogle paid a visit to UCC on 4 May 2023, meeting with both students and staff.
The Institution of Chemical Engineers President David Bogle visited UCC on May 4 2023, as part of a tour of Irish universities which included QUB, UCD and MTU.
Professor Bogle is Professor of Chemical Engineering at UCL, and is Pro-Vice-Provost (Doctoral School & Early Career Research Staff). He attended a student showcase and panel discussion, which was ably moderated by yr 3 student Sarah Turcanu. This included a panel discussion and presenations on aspects of their programme from Katie Ryan (yr 3), Sam O'Neil (yr 3), Fiona Luttrell (yr 5 ME) and Luke Crowley (yr 5 ME). Prof. Bogle asked students how the IChemE can better support them, while he spoke to both students and staff about the need to incorporate ethics into our programmes and practice, in a way similar to how chemical engineering has incorporated safety imperatives, and more recently sustainability across and throughout its programmes.
Prof. Edmond Byrne welcomed Prof. Bogle to Process and Chemical Engineering along with discipline colleagues. The IChemE President also met with, and was welcomed by UCC Deputy President and Registrar Prof. Stephen Byrne, College of Science, Engineering and Food Science Head, Prof. Sarah Culloty, and Head of School of Engineering and Architecture, Prof. Jorge Oliveira, who all emphasized their support for, and the importance of chemical engineering and IChemE Acccreditation to UCC.
