Applications are invited for a four-year funded PhD studentship in the School of Clinical Therapies at University College Cork

Background and objectives: This Research project aims to improve our understanding of the association between hearing loss and cognitive decline in an Irish based population. including the mechanisms linking the two conditions, and evidence for intervention through hearing and communication rehabilitation

The successful applicant will work with a multidisciplinary supervisory / Advisory team based at UCC and Cork University Hospital.

Funding: The PhD position is funded for 4 years. It includes a tax-free stipend of 25.000 per annum, with tuition fees covered

Start date: January 2026

Eligibility criteria

Essential:

  • A minimum 2.1 master’s degree (or equivalent) in Audiology, hearing sciences or other closely related disciplines.
  • Strong interest in Hearing research.
  • Strong interest in Adult Audiology and rehabilitative Audiology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • A track record in publishing research in the area of hearing or cognitive decline
  • Experience with experimental design.
