PROFESSOR OF PHILOSOPHY

The Department of Philosophy is a dynamic and enthusiastic department.Its major areas of interest lie in Modern and Contemporary Philosophy, especially in Ethics and Politics, Philosophy of Mind and Body, and Philosophy of Art and Culture.Its members work in the Anglo-American and Continental European philosophical styles.

The Department contributes to the BA degree, and participates, with the Departments of History and Government, in the BA degree in Politics.It offers a taught MA in Philosophy, and contributes to the MA in Politics and to the MA in Aesthetics and Art History.Its future plans involve further development of its graduate programme and the creation of a diverse and energetic environment within which to conduct philosophical research.

University College Cork wishes to recruit an outstanding scholar with the vision and drive to lead the Department of Philosophy in its continued striving for excellence in research, teaching and philosophical debate.

The appointee must have:

  • A PhD in any area of Philosophy;
  • A significant international academic profile in Philosophy (ideally one that links to the research and teaching interests of the Department);
  • An outstanding personal research and publications record, as evidenced by a record of scholarly publications in books and refereed journals;
  • Proven ability to provide strategic vision and leadership in the development of the discipline of Philosophy;
  • Strong commitment to Teaching and Learning;

Salary scale (new entrants): €109,104 – €140,385
