Financial Services Innovation Centre Positions

The Financial Services Innovation Centre in University College Cork plays a pivotal role in stimulating innovation in the financial services sector by providing a resource for global financial services companies to participate in cutting-edge innovation and development that will have global impact. The Centre also allows participants to share information and expertise, while also keeping abreast of the latest development in the financial services software market. The Centre provides a collaborative environment to develop innovative solutions with a rich partnership between University staff and the financial services sector. Creative and novel approaches to innovation ensure the Centre delivers breakthrough solutions for the real IT problems faced by Financial Services Institutions. 

The FSIC and Bank of Ireland recently announced the first Innovation Partnership supported by Enterprise Ireland involving a financial services company. This collaborative research project has a 2 year funding package in excess of €500k – 50% of which was sponsored by Bank of Ireland, and the remainder by Enterprise Ireland who fund and manage the national Innovation Partnership initiative.

Bank of Ireland have agreed a number of research streams with the FSIC which will investigate how technology can be used to improve service in these areas; the secure delivery of financial services to bank customers, integrating self-service systems in bank branches, using technology to increase operational effectiveness in branches and to manage document handling across the bank branch network.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a proven track record of research in information systems in financial services.

Some of the roles will be suitable for those with experience in the industry and who wish to pursue further research in the area.

Senior Post Doc Researcher  - One 2 year contract

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant discipline or hold a postgraduate level degree with in excess of four years corporate research experience in Financial Services. Experience of large scale research projects with several independent teams is desirable. Research or industry experience of one or more of the following is also desirable: front office retailing banking channel implementations, branch service performance, document imaging systems in the context of legal and regulatory requirements. The holder of this post is expected to contribute to the strategic development of the Financial Services Innovation Centre. The salary for this position is in the range €37,866 - €53,700.

Senior Researchers – One to Two year contracts

Candidates should at least hold a postgraduate level degree with in excess of three years corporate research experience in Financial Services. Experience of project management in Financial Services or Retail Banking would be beneficial. Research or industry experience of one or more of the following is also desirable: direct service channel implementations in Retail & Commercial Banking including straight-through processing, document imaging and content management system development in an information intensive environment. Quantitative data analysis, business intelligence experience would also be an advantage for one of these positions. The salary for these positions is in the range €37,866 - €53,700.

Research Assistants – One to Two year contracts

Candidates should hold a primary level degree with at least two years systems development experience in Financial Services. This role may suit an individual, who is interested in also doing part-time postgraduate study. Research or industry experience of one or more of the following is also desirable: direct channel implementations with straight-through processing, Financial Service software development, business intelligence and performance metrics (service cost, quality and effectiveness), document imaging and workflow implementations. The salary for these positions is in the range €21,477 - €34,767.
