All Island Interprofessional Healthcare Challenge for students (AIPEC) UCC heat!
On Feb 21st three interprofessional student teams took part in the first AIPEC UCC local competition.
AIPEC is an intervarsity, interprofessional student competition. UCC College of Medicine and Health has been represented by student teams at AIPEC since 2019. This year with increased student interest, a local heat took place, and congratulations to all students who took part representing Audiology, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery, Occupational therapy, Paramedic Science, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy.
Professor Helen Whelton opened the event remarking on the positive energy and collaborative spirit of the student teams.
The teams worked collaboratively over several weeks on a patient management plan centred on Cystic Fibrosis. The presentations were reviewed by a panel of expert judges:
Ms Mairead McCarthy, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Cystic Fibrosis, CUH,Consultant Respiratory Physician in Cystic Fibrosis Kevin Deasy, CUH and Dr Niamh Coffey, Clinical Fellow in Restorative Dentistry, Cork Dental School and Hospital.
Gwen Healy spoke of her lived reality as a patient with Cystic Fibrosis and described her experiences with all the healthcare professionals and teams involved her care.
Congratulations and best of luck to the winning student team will represent us at the AIPEC final in Queen’s University Belfast on Fri 8th March, against seven other University teams!
