AIPEC 2024: All Ireland Interprofessional Healthcare Challenge for students.
This year's case focused on a lady with cystic fibrosis.
AIPEC is an annual interprofessional, intervarsity competition which provides an opportunity for students from all health and social care disciplines to work collaboratively for 8 weeks to present a patient management plan for a patient with health and social care needs. This year's case focused on a lady with cystic fibrosis.
The local qualifying heat took place on 21st Feb in UCC, with three interprofessional student teams taking part. The judges at this heat were Consultant Respiratory Physician Kevin Deasy, Clinical Nurse Manager Mairead McCarthy of the CUH Cystic Fibrosis unit, and patient advocate Gwen Healy spoke of her experience living with Cystic Fibrosis.
The winners of the qualifying heat and our UCC College of Medicine and Health team members at this year’s AIPEC final in Queen’s University Belfast on 8th March were:
Asma Zulfiqar Dentistry
Anish Madan Lal Dentistry
Louise Harte Medicine
Angela Flynn Occupational Therapy
Adam Dunne Paramedicine
Luke Healy Pharmacy
Niamh Kavanagh Pharmacy.
Congratulations to you all!
All student teams presented their patient management plan to a panel of expert judges. Our UCC College of Medicine and Health team were commended on their presentation which addressed patient advocacy and the challenges faced by the patient and the health care professionals to ensure an appropriate management plan.
This year teams from all over Ireland took part; University College Cork, University of Limerick, University of Galway, Trinity College Dublin, Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, University College Dublin, Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster. QUB were the AIPEC 2024 winners.
