Our College is a dynamic hub of interdisciplinary research and innovation activity occurring across our six Schools, their constituent Departments, three large research centres in APC Microbiome Ireland, Cancer Research @UCC, INFANT, all supported by our HRB-Clinical Research Facility, who all working in partnership with a diverse array of local, national and international collaborators.

With a mission to improve understanding, care and treatment of human disease, and enhance human health and wellbeing, research within the College is addressing complex health challenges across the pillars of the translational research spectrum in the areas that include Clinical & Healthcare Sciences, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public and Population Health Sciences.

Research and innovation activity from all of these areas is now core to UCC Futures, which is a transformative initiative that reimagines research and innovation across the University. Anchored in a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration, this program brings together expertise from multiple domains to tackle global challenges in ten indicative areas.

The College of Medicine and Health is proud to lead four of these in the areas of Children, Food, Microbiome & Health, Medicines and Ageing and Brain Science as well as large contributions to the other areas, including Pharmaceuticals.  For the College of Medicine and Health, UCC Futures provides a framework to accelerate discovery, attract world-class talent, and strengthen our position as a leader in scientific discovery and global health research and innovation.

All of this activity is also a key driver of the College's commitment to developing an Academic Health Sciences (AHS) for the South West region of Ireland.

By integrating academic excellence with clinical practice, the AHSS will strengthen partnerships between UCC and regional healthcare providers to create a sustainable and patient-centered healthcare model that supports clinical trials and innovation, deliver evidence-based care, and support the development of the next generation of science and healthcare professionals.
