First year student Interprofessional Learning (IPL)
The IPL Development Committee introduced a new IPL workshop series for first year students in Semester 2.
Over 350 students from the following programmes took part: Masters in anatomy, medicine, nursing & midwifery, masters in nutrition and dietetics, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and social work. The students learned about each other's roles and responsibilities, and communication training in healthcare settings using the ISBAR tool was introduced.
The session was complemented by a series of videos from the Cork University Hospital Stroke Unit Team multidisciplinary team members, explaining interprofessional collaboration and communication in their daily practice on the Stroke ward.
