FOUND: Images, Objects, Things
Second Year Students of Theatre of the Image (Department of Theatre, School of Film, Music & Theatre) UCC, are delighted to present a series of short performances taking influences from the work of international practitioners: Tadeusz Kantor, Pina Bausch and Robert Wilson.
The term ‘Theatre of the Image’ is used to describe theatre that moves away from text to a theatre of visual and aural landscapes and choreographed movement. In exploring Theatre of the Image this term, our work began with bringing a ‘found’ object to class. Using the object as our focus, we then experimented with various practices starting with the idea of Kantor’s ‘bio object’ and then moving on Bausch’s distinctive use of repetition and everyday movement, and lastly Wilson’s techniques in spatial awareness/architecture of space.
Go [to my performances] like you would to a museum, like you would look at a painting. Appreciate the color of the apple, the line of the dress, the glow of the light … You don’t have to think about the story, because there isn’t any. You don’t have to listen to words, because the words don’t mean anything. You just enjoy the scenery, the architectural arrangements in time and space, the music, the feelings they all evoke. Listen to the pictures.
Each solo performance piece lasts between 5-10 minutes.
