Pre-Entry Employability Module

WHAT IS THE UCC PROPEL PRE-ENTRY EMPLOYABILITY MODULE?

In February 2020, the UCC Career Services developed the UCC Career Services - International Student Working Group, to develop resources that would support and enhance the employability of international students of UCC.

The UCC Careers Services team have listened to the voices of our international students to understand their experience of accessing career opportunities in Ireland. To this end, the project team organised a number of surveys and focus groups with international students from different countries from a range of degree programmes in UCC or who had recently graduated and were working in Ireland. We learned from successful international students and graduates that pre-entry preparation was key - the most successful students were those who arrived  in UCC prepared with an understanding of the employment market in Ireland, what Irish employers are looking for, and how to engage with Irish employers. The gradate recruitment process starts in September/October so it is important to be prepared to make the most of opportunities from the moment you arrive.

As a result of this feedback, we created a module called the UCC PROPEL Pre-Entry Employability Module for International Students.  This module is now available to all international offer holders of UCC to complete online in their home country before arriving in UCC to begin their degree

The PROPEL Employability Module is designed to assist international students who are planning on coming to UCC to complete a programme of study that will support you to deal with the challenges gaining employment, and developing your long-term employability, while studying in Ireland.

The module covers three Units and prospective students will work through each Unit in sequential order.

Unit 1 (Workplace Readiness Skills) goes first, then Unit 2 (Prepare for the Irish Job Market) and finally Unit 3 (Prepare to Engage with Employers). At the end of each Unit prospective students will submit a short assignment which can be used to secure your UCC EmployAgility Award when you are registered in UCC.  The UCC EmployAgility Award is a digital badge awarded to international students for completing of the PROPEL Pre-Entry Module which can be put on your CV and LinkedIn profile:
