Dr Yvonne Nolan and Dr Eithne Hunt present 'Older and Wiser'

Dr. Yvonne Nolan, Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, and Dr. Eithne Hunt, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, have developed and recently presented 'Older and Wiser' a programme of Science based information and strategies to help our children develop healthy brains and daily habbits as they grow.

In the last 15 years or so, scientists have made amazing discoveries about how our brains grow and develop. Previously it was thought that most brain development happens in the first 3 years of life. Now we know that adolescence (more recently considered to stretch from age 10 to 24!) is another crucial period of brain development.

In a recent information evening for parents of children at Glasheen Boys and Girls National Schools and the wider community, Dr. Yvonne Nolan and Dr. Eithne Hunt shared some of the latest knowledge and practical tips on how to support our children's healthy brain and body development; and how to help them to manage some of the stresses and anxieties that can be part of daily life for us all.

Those who gave feedback valued the blend of personal and scientific knowledge shared by Yvonne and Eithne and other schools have since invited them to deliver the talk to their school communities.
