Hons BSc Neuroscience Graduate Katie Togher is conferred with PhD in Neuroscience

Congratulations to Dr. Katie Togher who graduated with a PhD in Neuroscience at the autumn graduations on October 26th 2018. Katie is already a graduate from the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience having graduated with an honours BSc Neuroscience in 2013.

Working in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience under the supervision Dr Gerard O'Keeffe,  Dr Ger Clarke Department of Psychiatry, Dr Ali Khashan Department of Epidemiology, and Prof Louise Kenny Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Katie presented her PhD thesis entitled ‘Prenatal stress, the placenta and maternal microbial transmission; implications for health and disease’. Included in this thesis was the establishment of the first clinical cohort to prospectively examine the impact of maternal mental health on the prenatal maternal and infant microbiotas. 

Dr Togher has recently commenced her studies in the Graduate Entry Medical programme in University of Limerick. She looks forward to a career as a practicing research clinician in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
