Anatomy & Neuroscience Graduations Summer 2018

Congratulations to Dr James O'Leary and Dr Ciaran O'Leime on their recent PhD conferring.
Dr Ciaran O'Leime completed his PhD thesis entitled "Investigating the regulatory role of TLX in IL-1β induced changes in hippocanpal neurogenesis" under the supervision of Dr. Yvonne Nolan and Professor John Cryan in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience. In this work Dr Leime used both in vitro and in vivo methods to investigate the interaction TLX, an orphan nuclear receptor within hippocampal neural progenitor cells, and the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1β. Ciaran is currently working with Randox as a clinical research scientist devloping diagnostic kits to detect a range of human disease biomarkers.
Dr James O'Leary completed his thesis "Adolescence as a Vulnerable Period for the Effects of Intrinsic & Extrinsic Regulators of Neurogenesis on Cognitive Behaviour" under the supervision of Dr Yvonne Nolan, Dr Olivia O’Leary and Professor John Cryan. James has recently taken up the position as a Postdoctoral fellow at Trinity College Dublin investigating the neurobiology of learning and memory.
