Cork Midsummer Meet Up 2018
Members from four different youth theatre met up in UCC on Fri 22nd June to take part in workshops, learn critical thinking skills and see theatre productions.
With over 30 participants from Activate Youth Theatre, Glengarriff Youth Theatre, UCC Youth Theatre, and Lightbulb Youth Theatre taking part in workshops facilitated by Alums Julie O'Leary and Barry Whelan there was a great atmosphere in the Theatre Lab. With an initial workshop getting the groups mingling and getting to know each other via creating short scenes followed by a Young Critics style workshop that questioned how the young people experienced and respond to theatre.
The group then attended the Young Playwrights in the Everyman Theatre showcasing new writing from nine young playwrights. This was followed by participating in the ’10 Min Dance Party’ and a picnic lunch. The day was rounded up with a trip the Firkin Crane for a ‘Rite of Spring’ a dance performance.
The Meet Up was supported by Youth Theatre Ireland and the Department of Theatre in conjunction with the Cork Midsummer Festival – looking forward to 2019!
