Dr. Eric Downer, Deptartment of Anatomy and Neuroscience has been awarded a research grant from The Physiological Society UKaimed at providing seed-funding to start new research projects.
This funding will support a patient-orientated research programme being developed by Dr. Downer’s lab, which is currently assessing peripheral and central inflammatory signature in patients with Multiple Sclerosis. The funding provided by the Society will support a pilot trial assessing the impact of aerobic exercise on immune parameters and cognition in relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis patients. The research project involves a unique collaboration between Dr. Downer, Dr. Orna O’Toole (Consultant Neurologist, Mercy University Hospital), Prof. Ken O’Halloran (Dept.
