School of Medicine Prize-Giving Ceremony 2014

The annual School of Medicine Prize-Giving Ceremony took place on Friday 21 November, 2014 in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex.

The Dean of the School, Professor Mary Horgan, welcomed the large number of prize-winners, their families and friends, guests and School of Medicine staff to the Ceremony. The Dean made special mention of the students who excelled in this year’s NUI Dr Henry Hutchinson Scholarships and Awards.  The performance in this national competition by UCC School of Medicine students was truly outstanding winning 20 awards – including 5 first prizes (scholarships), 6 second places, 7 third places and 2 commendations. 

 

The Dean also congratulated the UCC School of Medicine team of Ronan Bluett, Kieran Vincent Mullins, Catherine O’Mahoney and Róisín Ryan who recently won the 2014 Jack Flanagan Intervarsity Competition in Geriatric Medicine. The students, who were coached by Dr. Paul Gallagher and Dr Amanda Lavan, competed against the other medical schools in Ireland and were judged on their presentation skills as well as their knowledge of geriatric medicine, psychiatry and gerontology, before being announced as the winner of this prestigious competition.  

 

Professor Horgan thanked the families and friends for supporting the students through the medical programme.
