Richard Allan OBE: Malaria Research and Recognition at UCC Seminar

We were delighted to welcome Richard Allan OBE to UCC recently for special seminar on the challenges and opportunities of combatting malaria in the 21st century. Richard Allan is a world-leading authority on delivering public health and biologically rational vector control services during humanitarian crises.

He is the first candidate at UCC’s School of Biological Earth and Environmental Sciences and School of Public Health to pursue a PhD by Prior Publication. This programme recognises years of high-quality research work, granting a doctoral degree based on prior scholarly output. He is also is the first UCC PhD candidate with the accolade Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Richard was joined by experts in the field for lively and engaging discussion including:

  • Dr. William Hawley: World-renowned malaria vector control expert and advisor to the Indonesian Ministry of Health.
  • Mr. Dingani Chinula: Zambian National Malaria Elimination Centre.
  • UCC Faculty and Students: Prof. Gerry Killeen, an authority on malaria vector control, and Ms. Colette Cunningham, a public health specialist with field experience in Rwanda, Kenya, and Zambia.

Richard Allan's work exemplifies the intersection of research excellence, global health impact, and prestigious recognition.
