VACANCY: Professor/ Professor (Scale 2) in Agricultural Science

The appointee will be co-located at UCC and Teagasc Moorepark (Fermoy) to run the BSc in Agricultural Science, develop research and provide leadership in Agricultural Science at UCC in conjunction with Teagasc.

The School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, within the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) comprises the academic disciplines of Environmental Science, Zoology, Ecology, Plant Science and Geology. The School is one of the largest in SEFS and offers a wide variety of programmes across the disciplines, a number of which are ranked in the top 100-150 in QS subject rankings. It currently offers ten undergraduate programmes, two taught MSc programmes, and four MRes programmes. The School of Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Award and is proactively committed to equality and diversity in the workplace.

The Moorepark Animal & Grassland Research and Innovation Centre is Ireland’s leading dairy research institute with national responsibility for all aspects of dairy research which include dairy cow genetics and reproduction, dairy cow health and welfare, milk composition and dairy cow nutrition, grassland and grazing management, milking technology and milk production systems plus economic analysis. The research programme is conducted by over 40 scientific and technical professionals, supported by an administrative and operative staff. Moorepark operates a total of 7 individual dairy research farms totaling 600 hectares and over 1,250 dairy cows plus young stock. Facilities include modern individual cow feed and metabolism units, laboratories, computer facilities and milking research laboratories.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a doctorate in Agricultural Science or closely related discipline, and demonstrate a proven commitment to leadership and excellence in teaching and research as evidenced by a scholarly reputation of international standing. S/he is expected to have a strong track record of sustained peer-reviewed publications and will have a record of fostering a culture of teaching and research excellence. S/he is expected to take on a leadership role in the School.

The selected candidate must have research interests compatible with those of the School and Teagasc. These include grassland science, agri-environmental issues, animal science, soil science, smart agriculture, animal welfare and/or animal genetics.

Depending on the level of experience of the successful candidate, the appointment will be made at either:

Professor Salary Scale: €110,221 - €138,397 (Scale A) / €115,888 - €145,646 (Scale B)
Professor (Scale 2): €93,530 - €109,403 (Scale A) / €98,319 - €115,025 (Scale B)

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
