Visiting academics from the Inner Mongolia University for the Nationalities (IMUN), China

On Friday, 4th August, the School of BEES hosted a visiting group of academics from the Inner Mongolia University for the Nationalities (IMUN), China.

Their specialisations cover a wide range of areas in the broad environmental and biological sciences as well as environmental law and the humanities and gave a presentation on the research interests of their delegation which include the topics listed below.  Professor Paul Giller gave a presentation on the School of BEES and there was a general discussion (including John Quinn, Marcel Jansen, Javier delBarco-Trillo, Simon Harrison and Tim Sullivan) with the delegation around the environment of Inner Mongolia and opportunities for student transfer and research collaboration for the future.

Research areas in IMUN College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering include: 

  • Water treatment and wastewater degradation
  • Nutritional physiology of freshwater fish and cattle
  • Agricultural by-products as feed
  • Microbial community diversity of silage
  • Environmental toxicology and zebra fish models
  • Environmental law
  • The University also works in unique Steppe grassland habitats of Inner Mongolia which offer potential for very interesting collaborative research.
