26 Jun 2013

SEAI to support 22 energy efficiency projects to deliver up to €7 million annual energy savings and support over 500 jobs.

UCC, one of the first public bodies in the world to achieve ISO 50001 certification, has an on-going programme to retrofit their facilities.  The specific exemplar project aims to utilise the ESCO model to strategically retrofit the electrical and mechanical facilities in a number of campus buildings.

The President of UCC said" UCC is looking forward to working with SEAI in bringing this scheme forward".

Energy Minister, Pat Rabbitte TD today announced the first tranche of exemplar energy efficiency projects to be supported by Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) under the Action Plan for jobs.  Collectively the Exemplars will invest up to €55m in energy saving measures, resulting in annual savings of €7m, and supporting over 500 jobs.  Many of these projects will be eligible to avail of loan finance under the Government's National Energy Efficiency Fund announced in February.

The public and commercial sector projects will test different approaches to energy service contracting and financing, including full Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) wherein payment for energy upgrades is linked to a specified energy performance improvement.

What is an Exemplar Project?

Exemplar projects are demonstration projects that are prepared to use, test and provide feedback on the approach, tools and structures will be accepted as Exemplar projects.  Exemplars will receive additional supports in the form of training, networking and access to a panel of legal and technical experts to review and comment at key stages of the projects.  In return participating organisations must commit to actively provide feedback on use of the Framework.
