Film Screening TONIGHT 6pm (WW5): The End of Suburbia

19 Sep 2007

Public Movie Screening

Wednesday 19th of September, 6pm, UCC Campus, WW5

Organised by University College Cork

In connection with this year’s European Mobility Week, UCC organises a public screening of The End of Suburbia, a 78 minute documentary directed by Gregory Greene and produced by Barry Silverthorn (2004).

This well-acclaimed documentary explores the history of urban sprawl in the United States, the ”Suburbia” lifestyle totally depending on car traffic and the provision of cheap fuel and how this will be affected by the inevitable rise in fuel costs over the coming years.

World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline of fossil fuels are upon us now and serious questions are emerging about the sustainability and future perspectives of the suburban way of life.

Some interesting parallels might be discovered with Cork and other Irish cities’ suburbs developed in recent years. What lessons can be learned for Ireland?

Please find more information on this documentary at: http://www.endofsuburbia.com/

The screening will be followed by discussion.

All are welcome to attend (admission free).
