Mentor Panel
Pauline Frizelle is a Professor at University College Cork and a former speech and language therapy manager, with over 20 years’ experience working with children with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs. In 2008 she was the first speech and language therapist in Ireland to be awarded the Health Research Board fellowship for the therapeutic professions. In 2015 she was awarded an ASSISTid Marie Curie Fellowship to begin the development of an electronic assessment of complex syntax at the University of Oxford. She has since built on this work through a HRB lead investigator award, comparing assessment methodologies and developing a robust and engaging assessment of complex syntax. Pauline is particularly interested in collaborative research projects with clinicians in the community and in the development of robust, theoretically- driven interventions, for children from areas of social disadvantage. She has recently received a 1.3 million Definitive Intervention Feasibility award (DIFA), to complete a full definitive trial on the Happy Talk programme and a 2.5 million award to lead an international programme of research to develop consensus on reporting guidelines to be used in language intervention studies, for children with or at risk for Developmental Language Disorder Approach as Mentor I am getting involved in mentoring as I didn't find it easy to access mentorship and the academic arena is a difficult one to navigate. If I can help someone more junior to me then I think it is very important at an individual, collegial and university level. I believe we can all learn from each other and those more senior need to lift up those who are more junior and create a supportive environment. Types of Mentoring Offered: Panel Mentoring - Mentoring with 1 to 2 other panel members - Longer term relationship (1 year plus). Panel Mentoring - Mentoring with 1 to 2 other panel members - Short term relationship (6 months or less). Panel Mentoring - Mentoring with 1 to 2 other panel members - Speed Mentoring Session (once off meeting around specific need). Mentoring Topic Include: Innovation in Research, Time Management - Balancing Academic Activity, Balancing Work and Family Responsibilities, Collaborative Research, Preparing Articles for Publication, Choosing Where to Publish - Publishing Strategically, Developing an Academic Profile, Writing Grant Applications, Managing/Leading Grants and Projects, Team Working, Leading Labs/Field Work, Career Development, Speaking at Conferences.
