UCC Awarded Cork Traveller Ally Award

Cork Traveller Women's Network and Cork Traveller Visibilty Group recognise UCC for creating welcoming spaces for Travellers and supporting Traveller rights and culture.

Cork Traveller Women's Network and Cork Traveller Visibilty Group have presented University College Cork with an Ally Award, one of the first ever awarded by these groups, "for the ongoing work of many staff, schools, departments, researchers and students who have reached out to the Traveller community over the years.  We recognise UCC's ambition to increase the number of Traveller graduates at the university and improve Traveller education outcomes in general."  Of note were the "many champions within the university who regularly reach out to Traveller organisations to show solidarity, develop research, share findings, deliver adult education and further learning courses as well as advocate for Traveller rights with the community" and the UCC diploma course in leadership in the Community developed in collaboration with the Southern Traveller Health Network which saw over twenty Traveller women complete a higher education course was paricularly commended.
