The Athena SWAN Ireland charter has recently undergone a re-development in line with the findings of a national consultation and offers a framework for progressing equality in higher education and research that is unique to Ireland.

The objective of the 2021 Athena Swan Ireland framework is to support institutions, departments, and professional units in impactful and sustainable gender equality work and to build capacity for evidence-based equality work across the equality grounds enshrined in Irish legislation.

The new 2021 Charter framework was published in late October.  Key changes include:

  • streamlined data reporting requirements for AS applications, including renewals
  • expansion of the Charter to include non-academic units (e.g. finance, human resources, IT departments)
  • widening equality focus beyond gender, and incorporating an intersectional perspective

Information on the new framework can be found on Advance HE's relaunched webpages.
