Qualcomm host event for UCC alumni and staff

Qualcomm recently hosted UCC staff and alumni at a special event in their offices in Penrose Dock, Cork. The audience had a chance to network with colleagues and listened to an address by Professor John O'Halloran highlighting the diversity of research driving innovation at UCC.
It was also a wonderful opportunity to meet some of our UCC STEM graduates in their place of work.
Qualcomm is an American telecommunications company which produces semiconductors, software and wireless technology. Founded in 1985 by electronic engineer Irwin Jacobs, Qualcomm established innovative technology which used CDMA (code division multiple access) to harness wireless transmissions. This technology formed the basis for mobile phones and later, mobile broadband. Qualcomm has been instrumental in the development of 3G, 4G and 5G technology.
In 2013, Qualcomm established a European base in Cork. Since then, it has collaborated closely with UCC. Over the past number of years, the Cork engineering team has grown to over 300+ engineers and is continuing to grow.
Thank you to our colleagues in UCC Alumni and Development for facilitating this event.
