Nursing Mothers

Nursing Mothers

Lots of support is available for mums who breastfeed, both whilst on maternity leave and on their return to work, as well as for partners of breastfeeding mums. If you want to carry on breastfeeding when you return to work, there's no reason to stop - most mums are able to find a solution which works for them. Some express while away from their child, others mix feed - there are lots of options open to you. Within the University, as part of the Maternity Connections scheme, there are two breastfeeding experts who are happy to answer questions and offer support regarding breastfeeding, including around your return to work.

There is also a national breastfeeding information site  https://www.breastfeeding.ie/   which can provide independent breastfeeding support and information.

Facilities

Members of staff who are breastfeeding and/or need to express may need access to private and hygienic facilities.

Buildings & Estates added a new map showing the locations of facilities available to Nursing Mothers/Baby Changing and First Aid locations

The map is available to download here Nursing Mother/Baby Changing/First Aid Map Jan 2014 (4,380kB)

For information on existing facilities and to make arrangements where provision doesn't currently exist please contact Building and Estates.   You can also contact the Welfare & Development Advisor if there are any issues.

Nursing mothers and their managers should follow the Safety and Health Office's requirements  and complete any associated risk assessments.
