Summary: Applications are invited for a PhD position at the Tangney Lab at Cancer Research @UCC, Western Gateway Building, University College Cork.
Cancer Research @UCC is a translational cancer research centre within the College of Medicine & Health, University College Cork. The Bacteria & Cancer theme, led by Prof Mark Tangney, involves the study and/or and application of bacteria in cancer settings https://www.ucc.ie/en/cancer-research/people/mark-tangney.
Background and objectives
The Tangney lab is currently seeking 1 or more PhD students with an interest in wetlab and /or drylab (bioinformatics, sequence data analytics, protein design). This project is part of Precision Oncology Ireland https://www.precisiononcology.ie and will involve studying bacteria in the context of cancer to include microbiome and/or bacteria as cancer therapeutics.
Start date: 5th January 2026
Eligibility criteria
Essential: BSc in a biological science subject or computer science.
Desirable: MSc in relevant topic; Wet lab experience (bacterial or cell culture) or bioinformatics
