Shortfall in Civil Engineering Graduate Numbers 'Critical'

Engineers Ireland Director General Caroline Spillane has spoken out on the current lack of graduates in the Civil Engineering discipline, stating that 'critical' shortages will occur in the sector by 2019 if graduate numbers do not increase.
Ms Spillane's comments were reported in the Irish Independent newspaper. The lack of graduates is likely to slow the delivery of the major capital investments in housing and infrastructure which are needed by Ireland's growing economy. With the number of graduate opportunities greatly exceeding the available supply of graduates, it is clear that Engineering is a compelling career choice for school leavers in 2016.
