ACE at UCC is delighted to announce the launch of an innovative range of part-time courses focused on upskilling those working in the BioPharmaChem sector. 

Dr Seamus O Tuama is the Director of ACE (Adult Continuing Education) at University College Cork, Ireland's oldest University centre for the delivery of adult and continuing education. His lecture will highlight the roles and importance of Adult Education in the community, addressing strategies adopted within ACE at UCC at present.

The lecture programme will be opened at 7pm on 30th March by Dr Larysa Samosonok, Former Vice-Rector of Donetsk National University of Economics, Ukraine. 

From March 30th, ACE celebrates former Director Seán Ó Murchú as part of our 75th anniversary. An 8 week public lecture series will focus on the theme of community-engaged adult education All lectures are from 7 - 9pm

KATE RYAN chats to Regina Sexton, Ireland’s leading food and culinary historian, about how her interest in food history was first nurtured and flourished, and her latest course offering at UCC.

Regina Sexton, ACE Co-ordinator and Programme Manager of the Postgraduate Diploma in Irish Food Culture has been appointed to the Food Safety Consultative Council (FSCC) by the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD. Regina joins 22 other Council members for the period 2021-2026.

The Adult Learner Careers Symposium for UCC students. 

Helene McManus of Kilcloon & District Credit Union was elected as the new ILCU President. Helene is only the second woman President in the sixty-one year history of the Irish League of Credit Unions, the first being Anne O’Byrne in 2005. 

In her recent interview for the Tommy Tiernan Show she emphasised the importance of recognising that disabled people are individuals not a homogenous group. 

With a plethora of recent high-profile cases in the media, the course co-ordinator and lecturer, Dr Ciara Staunton comments and discusses some of the potential underlying psychological components for the Irish Examiner.

Brendan Goggin delivered the Alfred O'Rahilly Public Lecture at the Adult Continuing Education Winter Conferrings on Thursday the 25th of October.

Adult Continuing Education presented its annual Bertram Windle Award  at the Winter conferring ceremony in City Hall on the 25th of October 2018. It was presented to the Cork Adult Education Council to recognise their great achievement of contributing towards the advancement of Lifelong Learning in Cork City.

Ciarán Delaney, a graduate of ACE at UCC has been elected as a Vice President of  the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, the world leading professional body for health and safety professionals, which has over 47,000 members in over 130 countries. He is also an Ambassador for a Northern Ireland charity, the NOW group which supports people with invisible disabilities, whose service users developed the JAM card, which asks people to give them Just A Minute.

ACE is delighted to present a new Diploma in Management Practice. The programme will be particularly valuable to managers in any sector who have had little or no formal management training and want to strengthen their managerial capabilities through the completion of a formal third level management qualification that is highly practical in its orientation.

This week’s lecture takes place at 7pm on Wednesday 6^th April in City Hall’s Council Chamber and is offered in collaboration with the Learning Cities Festival. Our speaker is Donald Tracy, who has travelled from Austin Community College (ACC) in Texas to participate in the Festival’s week of events.

The course aims to provide participants with a working knowledge of the night sky and equip them with some of the skills they would need to become a Star Gazing Guide. It will take place on Friday 23rd March 5pm - 9:30pm and Saturday 24th March 9:30am - 5:30pm.

Following a meeting of the Emergency Management Team this morning, it has been decided to end classes/labs etc. today the 28th of February at 3pm. The University will be closed from 6pm this evening – all night classes will be cancelled and the University will remain closed Thursday the 1st of March and Friday the 2nd of March.

The Financial Aid Fund provides financial assistance for part-time higher education students who are experiencing financial difficulties whilst attending college. It is a seperate amont of monies allocated to part time students that comes under the auspices of the Student Assistance Fund.

Professor Fred Powell delivered the Inaugural O'Rahilly Public Lecture at the Adult Continuing Education Winter Conferrings on Friday the 17th of November. 

ACE presented the Bertram Windle Award 2017 to the GLLiC (Growing Lifelong Learning in Cork) Committee on 17 November to recognise their great achievement in bringing the 3rd UNESCO Conference on Learning Cities to Cork this year and for their advancement of Lifelong Learning in Cork City.

On November 18^th the Centre for Adult Continuing Education (ACE) at UCC will present the first-ever Bertram Windle Award to Professor Emeritus Éamonn Ó Carragáin. Prof. Ó Carragáin has lectured with ACE for over thirty years, delivering courses on the rich histories and cultures Rome, Vienna, Paris, and more. 

Applications are now open for courses starting in January 2017. Locations in Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Limerick and online.

Dr Séamus Ó Tuama, Director of Adult Continuing Education will deliver a keynote lecture and workshop at an International Colloquium on university community engagement at Stuttgart University in Germany this week. The colloquium is titled “Community engagement for building bridges between cultures, disciplines and generations”

70 years ago, the Adult Continuing Education Department (ACE) in UCC was founded by Dr. Alfred O’Rahilly. Since then, ACE has been offering educational programmes in a wide range of disciplines to adult learners in UCC and at outreach locations in the wider county and country. 

Adult Continuing Education at UCC has more than 75 courses on offer for the 2016/2017 Academic year. With programmes in various locations including Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Dublin and more, lifelong learners have plenty of options to choose from to suit their academic or professional development needs.

Talent Management in Family Business Roadshow UCC was delighted to partner with the DCU Family Business Centre to present the Cork leg of the 'Talent in Family Business Roadshow' in the Kingsley Hotel on 8 June, 2016. James O'Sullivan of well-known family business M&P O'Sullivan was the guest local family business. PWC presented findings of their global next generation survey, while AIB provided insights on the topic of succession. Key challenges in relation to talent management and communication were discussed.

This genealogy summer school offered a complete course in the latest Irish genealogy research at UCC in 2014.  All aspects of the subject were covered by a series of presentations and ‘hands on’ workshops given by a selection of Ireland’s leading genealogical lecturers and experts. 

Through the HEA's Springboard call for 2014 UCC secured a total of nine programmes across three Colleges: Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences; Business and Law; and Science, Engineering and Food Science, offering 165 places to job-seekers. The programme is coordinated by ACE.

ACE recently enrolled the first cohort of students to the new Certificate in Mental Health in the Community.

ACE hosted the Free University lecture series as part of UCC’s contribution to the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival 2014. The week-long series was held on campus in W9 and attracted excellent attendance from the general public and UCC staff members — all lectures were given pro bono by UCC staff.

This innovative course is designed to introduce you to the different ways in which people on the autistic spectrum experience the world. The historical and social practices that enabled autism to be identified from the early twentieth century are explored. There will be an emphasis on the communication and behavioural challenges for the individual with autism and how society responds to these challenges and also how a person with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) may contribute positively to society. The issue of mental health and ASD will be examined. You will learn the importance of early intervention, education and inclusion, and legislation and policies that govern best practice guidelines and models of service.
