Dr Séamus Ó Tuama - Keynote lecture at Stuttgart University in Germany

Dr Séamus Ó Tuama, Director of Adult Continuing Education will deliver a keynote lecture and workshop at an International Colloquium on university community engagement at Stuttgart University in Germany this week. The colloquium is titled “Community engagement for building bridges between cultures, disciplines and generations”

It draws together a range of international experts to address the complex challenges universities face today in engaging with diverse communities both inside the university itself and in the wider community. Among the issues is will addresses are migration, cultural diversity, conflict, terrorism, changing political borders, and climate change. These will be interrogated against the four core university missions of knowledge generation, preservation, transmission and application (Boyer, 1990).

Dr Ó Tuama will present on the success achieved in Cork through the deep community engagement of UCC that has helped win Cork city a UNESCO Learning City Award.
