The Free University 2015 – Cork Lifelong Learning Festival

28 Mar 2015

George Boole, Homelessness, Crime, Feminism, Road Bowling, and Mind Reading were just some of the varied topics covered during an exciting week of free lectures and events organised by ACE as part of the successful Cork Lifelong Learning Festival.

Our week long programme of events on campus started with a conference on Homelessness, a subject of major relevance in Ireland today, and ended with a wonderful concert performance by Cór Chúil Aodha in the Honan Chapel. In between those two notable events was a series of lectures and seminars covering a myriad of topics that ranged from ‘Ireland and World War 1’ to ‘America’s Battle with Racism’. The life and times of George Boole, first professor of mathematics at UCC, was also a particular focus of the week long programme as part of the wider BOOLE* 200 celebrations.

All of the events were very well attended and we would like to thank all of those who participated and attended in what was a most enjoyable and stimulating week.  ACE is very proud to be part of the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival and ‘The Free University’ gives people a chance to sample  some of the many offerings we have at Adult Continuing Education.
