UCC Engineering Prizegiving 2026

University College Cork celebrated student achievement at the School of Engineering and Architecture Prizegiving on 5 June 2026, recognising outstanding performance across undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.
The annual ceremony brought together students, staff and supporters to mark the dedication, innovation and hard work demonstrated throughout the academic year. It also highlighted the strong links between teaching, research and real-world impact that underpin engineering education at UCC
Awards and Winners
- Dr Paul Cahill Memorial Prize (best final year project/dissertation in Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering) – Eabha Keely.
- Dr Elmer Morrissey Memorial Scholarship (academic excellence and contribution to student life) – Gregor Elias
- Joe Gantly Prize (best presentation on professional work placement) – John Scanlan and Kate Donovan. Runners up: Mark Maguire EEE and Daniel O’Reilly NE.
- Prof. Gerard Wrixon Prize (EEE) (top graduate in Electrical & Electronic Engineering) – Orla Cowhig.
- CEIA Prize (BE EEE) (highest overall marks in BE Electrical & Electronic Engineering) – Yiber Sadiku.
- Infineon Technologies Prize (EEE Year 3) (top third-year student) – Luke Ennis.
- Qualcomm Top of the Class Award (Year 1) (highest mark in first-year EEE module) – Matteo John Spadafora.
- Qualcomm EEE Excellence Award (highest graduation mark with consistent first-class honours) – Yiber Sadiku
- Postgraduate Research Publication of the Year (best peer-reviewed research paper) – Neng Wang. Runners up: Tinghao Liu, Rajas Shinde.
- Uisce Éireann Bursary for Women in Engineering (academic achievement, leadership and commitment to sustainability) – Abigail Kelleher.
- John Joseph McCarthy Scholarship (contribution to UCC sport by a civil engineering student) – Meabh Hughes.
- Excellence in Structural Design (ME) (innovation and technical excellence in structural design) – Oisin Coyle.
- John Murphy Postgraduate Research Fellowship (supporting impactful civil engineering research) – Chuanyang Peng
- Horner Best Poster Award (outstanding capstone project presentation) – Jack Foley. Runners-Up: Niamh Redmond and Adam Carroll.
- Best EEE Final Year Project (overall excellence in final-year engineering project) – Peter Mayer.
The ceremony reflected the high calibre of UCC engineering students and their readiness to contribute to key global challenges. From sustainability and infrastructure to advanced technologies, the achievements recognised on the day demonstrate the vital role UCC graduates will play in shaping a more innovative, resilient and sustainable future.
