RSC accreditation renewed for BSc and MSc programmes in Chemistry
The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has renewed its accreditation of UCC’s BSc programmes in Chemistry, Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds and Chemistry with Forensics, and its MSc programmes in Analytical Chemistry.
The accreditation ensures that UCC chemistry graduates are recognised globally in terms of the quality of their degree programme. Graduates from the School have an excellent track record in progressing to successful and rewarding careers including in the pharmaceutical and ICT sectors in Ireland and internationally.
“The School is delighted that the RSC has renewed the accreditation for our programmes – this reflects the commitment of all in the School involved in the delivery of our curriculum – academic staff, technical officers, postgraduate demonstrators and the admin team” said Professor Anita Maguire, Head of School.
The Chair of the School’s Teaching and Learning Committee, Dr Dean Venables, expressed his delight in achieving the accreditation.
“Chemistry teaching at UCC is continually evolving and innovating. The School was an early adopter of digital teaching tools and we have been developing students’ transferable skills for many years” he said.
"Looking to the future, he commented, “Our programmes will continue to develop to provide an excellent foundation in modern chemistry. We are currently integrating computational chemistry and green and sustainable chemistry more deeply into our curriculum. It is an exciting time to be training as a chemist because chemistry has the solutions to many contemporary challenges, whether in the development of new pharmaceuticals, reducing pollution, or finding pathways to develop circular processes in the use of materials.”
