About the Conference
The Conference and World Café event will be held in-person in Brookfield Health Services Complex, University College Cork.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines a Sustainable Healthcare System as a system that improves, maintains, or restores health, while minimizing negative impacts on the environment to the benefit of the health and well-being of current and future generations. At the heart of developing sustainable health systems is the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. The agenda is presented as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is an urgent call for action by all countries in a global partnership. The goals prioritise improving health and education while reducing inequality and tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Nurses and Midwives play a critically important role in recognising and responding to developing and maintaining a sustainable healthcare system. Through our work across myriad fields of clinical, research and academic practise, we can shape practices and policies so as to ensure a safer and healthier world in which people are born, grow, live, and work.

Through our work across myriad fields of clinical, research and academic practise, we can shape practices and policies so as to ensure a safer and healthier world in which people are born, grow, live, and work.
Come and explore these issues and hear from high-ranking researchers in this area. If your research fits into this area of working towards a healthy and sustainable future, please submit your abstract and share your perspectives. We invite you to submit an abstract of your research for either oral presentation or poster presentation at the conference.
The World Café Event
- Date: Thursday, 30th of March 2023
- Time: 10:00 - 13:00
- Venue: Brookfield Health Sciences Building, College Rd., University College Cork
The World Café event will be held as a pre-conference activity on Thurs 30th in which expert practitioners will work with experienced facilitators to establish shared priorities for sustainable healthcare that is shaped by nurses and midwives, and to undertake the production of a clear roadmap for a more sustainable future.
