The new HRB Centre for Health and Diet Research is offering a four-year PhD Studentship in collaboration with the Institute of Public Health in Ireland

The post will work on Cluster 1 – ‘Public Health Nutrition’ – of the Research Centre. The aim of this cluster is to establish an Obesity Observatory for Ireland, refine and develop statistical ‘Population Prevalence Models’ for diabetes and other nutrition-related chronic conditions, and conduct the first National Burden of Disease Study in Ireland, focused on obesity and nutrition related risk factors.

The PhD will be co-supervised by the Institute of Public Health and the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, UCC. The focus of the PhD will be on the National Burden of disease study. Formal training in burden of disease methods will be provided. Applications are invited from candidates with primary and or masters degree qualification in Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, Economics, Informatics and related disciplines. Additional teaching hours in the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health UCC may be offered to suitably qualified candidates. The successful candidate will have the option of working primarily from the Institute for Public Health (Dublin) or the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health, UCC (Cork).
