Lectureship in Anatomy (Two Positions)

Department of Anatomy

College of Medicine and Health

Two full time permanent, lectureship positions are available in the Department of Anatomy, at College Lecturer level. The posts involve delivering and developing teaching programmes in Anatomy in the new Graduate Entry Medical degree programme.  Contribution will also be made to other Anatomy and Neuroscience courses in the Health and Biological Sciences. Successful applicants will become members of a dynamic department with a very active neuroscience research group.  Research interests of applicants should complement those of the department.

The Department teaches in the College of Medicine and Health [Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Midwifery, Clinical Therapies, and Pharmacy], and in the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science, in which it offers an undergraduate Neuroscience BSc degree programme.

The research labs are located in UCC’s BioSciences Institute, which has a strong interdisciplinary research strategy and hosts cutting-edge platform technologies. This is reflected in the neuroscience research programme, which consists of coherently linked projects in the fields of development, degeneration and regeneration. It ranges from fundamental studies to development of strategies for neuroprotection, neuroregeneration and restoration of function of damaged tissue in disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, spinocerebellar ataxias and spinal cord injury. The experimental programmes are multidisciplinary and are located in state-of-art laboratories.  The integrated research strategy involves in vitro and in vivo experimentation, proteomic and genomic analyses, in vivo tracing and transplantation, as well as behavioural testing.

The successful candidate should have an established research track record in neuroscience and should demonstrate potential to attract independent research funding.  (S)he will play an active part in delivery and development of anatomy teaching to the Graduate Entry Medical Degree programme and, where appropriate, of the integrated curricula in Medicine, Dentistry, Clinical Therapies, Nursing, Pharmacy and Neuroscience at undergraduate and graduate levels.
